If you are a Decatur resident, email every member of the City Council to urge them to impose a 12-month moratorium on the approval of hyperscale (AI) data centers.
If you live in any other city/township, you should contact your City Council and urge them to enact a 12-month moratorium in your city/town, as a county moratorium would only include unincorporated parts of the county.
Large-scale data centers typically have far-reaching negative impacts on communities. As such, this decision should have an extensive study as well as public input and approval.

Call your State Senator and Representative to urge them to support and become a co-sponsor of the POWER Act.
The Illinois POWER Act (SB4016/HB5513) is a proposed legislative framework designed to regulate the unchecked growth of hyperscale data centers. The act seeks to protect the power grid, safeguard water supplies, and shield everyday consumers from having to pay for the infrastructure that supports these big tech companies.

On Monday, August 31st at 5pm at the Decatur Civic Center, the pro-data center group appointed by the County Board Chairman, Kevin Greenfield, will give their presentation in support of data center construction in Macon County. It is vitally important that the community shows up to push back on the members of this committee who stand to make money off their construction.
